Foldable iPhone may come with under-display camera technology
New details about Apple’s long-awaited foldable iPhone are starting to emerge. According to recent reports, the device might feature under-display camera technology, offering users a seamless screen experience.
According to Digital Chat Station, a well-known leaker, the inner display of the foldable iPhone will be 7.76 inches with a resolution of 2712 x 1920 pixels, and will include an under-display camera. The outer screen will measure 5.49 inches with a 2088 x 1422 resolution and will feature a classic punch-hole camera.
New claims about the foldable iPhone
Another earlier leak suggests that the inner display will have a 4:3 aspect ratio. Noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo confirmed this and added that the screen would not have a visible crease, pointing to Apple’s focus on premium design quality.
Apple first filed a patent for under-display camera technology in 2021, and a 2023 report claimed the company was actively working on it. Although this tech is still not widely adopted due to inferior image quality, brands like Samsung have implemented it in foldables to ensure a full-screen viewing experience.
If the leaks are accurate, it will be interesting to see how much Apple has improved the camera quality under the display.
There are also rumors that Apple may ditch FaceID for the foldable model. This suggests that the company might switch to either a side-mounted fingerprint scanner or an under-display fingerprint sensor.
From a design perspective, Apple is likely to go with a more compact and short form factor, similar to the Oppo Find N2, rather than the long and narrow design of the Samsung Fold series. This would allow easier one-handed use.
The foldable iPhone is expected to be released by the end of 2026, with a price tag above $2000. However, as there's still plenty of time before the official launch, Apple is likely experimenting with various prototypes, so some of these features may not appear in the final version.
