Huawei Pura 80 Series Announced: 1-Inch Camera, 48MP Periscope and Satellite Connectivity
Huawei has officially introduced its new Pura 80 series. The new models stand out with flagship-level camera technology, advanced satellite communication, and more powerful battery capabilities. The series includes four models, but this article focuses only on the Pura 80, Pura 80 Pro, and Pura 80 Pro+.
Display and Design
The Huawei Pura 80 model features a 6.6-inch flat OLED display with a resolution of 1,256 x 2,760 pixels. The Pura 80 Pro and Pura 80 Pro+ models come with curved 6.8-inch displays. All three models use LTPO OLED technology, support a 1–120Hz refresh rate, 10-bit color, and are protected by second-generation Kunlun glass.
Battery and Charging
The Pura 80 model comes with a 5,600mAh battery and supports 66W wired and 50W wireless charging. The Pro models have a larger 5,700mAh battery and offer 100W wired and 80W wireless fast charging. Additionally, the Pura 80 Pro and Pro+ models feature USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, while the standard model uses USB 2.0.
Memory and Performance
While the specific processor used was not officially disclosed, Huawei claims that the new Ark Engine in the Pro and Pro+ models is 36% faster compared to previous versions.
The Pura 80 and Pura 80 Pro models come with 12GB of RAM and are available in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options.
The Pura 80 Pro+ features 16GB of RAM and is offered only in 512GB and 1TB storage variants.
Camera Features
The Pura 80’s main camera has a resolution of 50MP with a variable aperture of f/1.4–f/4.0 and optical image stabilization (OIS). The second camera is a 12MP periscope telephoto lens with a 125mm focal length, 5.5x optical zoom, f/3.4 aperture, and OIS. The third camera is a 13MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and the fourth is a 1.5MP spectral sensor. The front camera is the same on all models: 13MP ultra-wide, f/2.0 aperture, and autofocus.
The Pura 80 Pro and Pro+ feature a main 50MP camera with a 1-inch sensor, f/1.6–f/4.0 aperture, and OIS. The second is a 48MP periscope telephoto lens with a 93mm focal length, 4x optical zoom, f/2.1 aperture, OIS, and tele-macro capabilities. The third camera is a 40MP ultra-wide lens, and the fourth is a 1.5MP spectral sensor.
Satellite Connectivity and Communication Technologies
The Pura 80 and Pura 80 Pro models are equipped with Beidou satellite communication, allowing users to send not just text messages but also images. An emergency auto-alert system is supported as well.
The Pura 80 Pro+ stands out with dual satellite support (Beidou and Tiantong), enabling users to send signals without the need to aim at a satellite.
Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.2 (with LDAC and L2HC support), NFC, and Huawei NearLink (SparkLink) technology.
Water Resistance
The Huawei Pura 80 series comes with IP68 and IP69 certifications. This means the devices can withstand submersion in water up to 2 meters deep and exposure to high-pressure hot water.
Prices
Huawei Pura 80 Pro prices vary depending on storage. The 12GB RAM + 256GB version costs $905 in the US, while the 512GB version is priced at $975. The highest-end configuration — 12GB RAM and 1TB storage — is offered at $1,115.
Huawei Pura 80 Pro+ is available in two variants:
12GB RAM + 512GB storage for $1,115,
