News from Instagram: Encrypted Reels Videos – Telsat
The Era of Secret Videos Begins?
Meta-owned Instagram has started testing a new feature that allows users to share password-protected Reels. Currently, a limited number of users can post videos that only viewers with the correct password can watch. This is the news that will be included in the list of Instagram innovations 2025.
How Does the Feature Work?
This test feature gives users the ability to:
- Set a password while posting a Reel,
- Restrict viewing to only those who have the password,
- Fully control who sees their content.
What Is Instagram Aiming For?
With this feature, Instagram aims to offer more privacy and control. It's especially useful for:
- Exclusive content creators,
- Educators, coaches, or private bloggers,
- Subscription-based or limited-access communities.
The feature could also enable creators to build paid access models, where only users with the password get to view the Reels.
Is the Feature Available to Everyone?
Currently, the feature is in testing phase only, and available to a small group of users. Instagram hasn’t announced a public release date yet, but it is expected to roll out more broadly soon.
