Xiaomi 17 Ultra’s launch date is confirmed: the design is also verified
Last week, Xiaomi hinted in a short teaser that the flagship Xiaomi 17 Ultra would debut in China “this week.” Now, the company has removed all ambiguity by officially revealing the exact launch date, along with the phone’s rear design and color options.
According to Xiaomi’s post on Weibo, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will be unveiled in China on December 25. The official teasers give a clearer look at the back panel and confirm that the device will feature a triple rear-camera setup, signaling that Xiaomi is once again putting strong emphasis on camera performance in its Ultra lineup.
The color options are now confirmed as well: the phone will arrive in three variants — a new Starry Green, plus classic White and Black. The Starry Green version stands out the most, as Xiaomi says it uses mineral particles on the rear panel to create a metallic-like finish. In other words, it’s not just a different color, but also a more premium-looking texture and visual effect.
As for design details, the teasers indicate the 17 Ultra will come with a flat display. Xiaomi also notes segmented volume buttons and confirms an 8.29mm body thickness, which suggests the brand is aiming for a slim, comfortable-in-hand flagship feel without compromising on premium build.
While Xiaomi hasn’t fully confirmed the core specs yet, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is expected to launch with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 platform. Rumors point to major camera upgrades, including a 1-inch type main sensor, a 200MP periscope telephoto camera, and improved Leica optics. If these details hold true, the 17 Ultra could deliver notable gains in low-light photography and long-range zoom performance.
Finally, while the initial launch is set for China, reports suggest the handset may see a global release in the coming months, positioning the Xiaomi 17 Ultra as a serious contender in the international flagship race.
